Yamaha to End Side-by-Side Production in Newnan, Shifting to OEM Model

Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation is set to end its in-house production of side-by-side (SxS) vehicles at its Newnan, Georgia facility following the conclusion of the 2026 model year. This decision will affect approximately 200 full-time positions at the Newnan plant, as part of a broader global restructuring impacting around 300 positions.

Yamaha plans to restructure portions of the plant to establish dedicated production lines for ATVs and golf cars, moving away from shared lines. This change is intended to boost ATV output, as global demand has historically exceeded the company's supply capabilities under the previous arrangement. Production space will also be utilized to improve golf car assembly and logistics.

Yamaha cited declining demand within portions of the sport and recreational side-by-side market as a factor influencing this revised strategy. This follows the company's earlier decision to discontinue the YXZ1000R and YXZ1000R SS models in the United States after the 2025 model year, leaving Yamaha without a pure-sport side-by-side for 2026.

The OEM strategy is designed to provide Yamaha with greater flexibility and improve capital efficiency, aiming to return its Outdoor Land Vehicle business to profitability by fiscal year 2028. The company anticipates restructuring costs of approximately 12 billion yen in fiscal year 2026. Yamaha will continue to provide parts, warranty, and service support for existing models.
