Fayette County Public Schools finished first in the state in algebra and U.S. history on the 2025 Georgia Milestones Assessment — and never fell below third place in any of the four subjects tested.
The rankings compare districts with a minimum number of test takers, putting Fayette up against similarly sized systems across Georgia. In every subject, the share of Fayette students scoring 'proficient or above' — the threshold the state uses to signal college- and career-readiness — ran roughly 20 percentage points ahead of the statewide figure.
The gap was widest in algebra: 74.5 percent of Fayette students scored proficient or above, compared to 44.9 percent statewide. More than 1,900 Fayette students sat for that exam, and the district ranked first among all qualifying districts in the state, according to fayette-news.net.
In U.S. history, 59.2 percent of Fayette students reached proficient or above versus 38.6 percent statewide — also a first-place finish among districts with at least 700 test takers. More than 1,100 students were tested.
American literature and composition produced a second-place ranking among districts with at least 700 test takers. There, 62.2 percent of Fayette students scored proficient or above, compared to 40.4 percent statewide. The district also tracks a separate reading-level measure for that subject: 83.7 percent of Fayette students scored at grade level or above in reading, against 67.3 percent statewide. Nearly 1,800 students were tested.
Biology rounded out the results with a third-place finish among districts with at least 800 test takers. Fayette's proficiency rate was 64.5 percent, compared to 44.2 percent statewide, with nearly 1,800 students tested.
The results cover the 2024–2025 school year. Statewide data is available through the Georgia Department of Education's online dashboards.
