Four days after a pre-dawn shooting left Jeremiah Easter dead on Bardot Drive in northwest Charlotte, detectives named a suspect — and by Thursday evening, he was in custody.
Trevon Damion Young, 37, was arrested Thursday, Aug. 6, after CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located him and took him into custody, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Young was brought to the Law Enforcement Center, where homicide detectives interviewed him, then transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
The killing happened in the 3600 block of Bardot Drive in the North Division. Officers responding found Easter with apparent gunshot wounds; MEDIC pronounced him dead at the scene. A second person was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to WSOC-TV.
CMPD's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Search responded. The Bardot Drive shooting was one of two fatal incidents in Charlotte that Sunday morning. A separate homicide unfolded in Uptown along East Fifth Street and North McDowell Street, involving a two-car crash, a robbery, and a shooting that killed Erick Holman. A suspect in that case, Rondreaus Cureton, was taken into custody following a brief pursuit and faces a murder charge along with several other counts, according to WSOC-TV.
CMPD said the victim's next of kin has been notified of Thursday's arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.
Why it matters — A named suspect is now in custody in a homicide that left one man dead and a second injured in a northwest Charlotte neighborhood, closing the most urgent phase of a four-day investigation.
