Duke Park's free summer concerts return — here's how to find out what's happening in the neighborhood

If you've landed on the Duke Park Neighborhood Association's website looking for what's on this summer, you may have come away empty-handed — the site's events section is largely dormant. The real action, it turns out, is elsewhere.
Durham Parks and Recreation is presenting a Summer Concert Series at Duke Park in 2026, running twice a month from June through August, free of charge, from 6 to 8 p.m. The concerts are family-friendly and feature a rotating lineup of food trucks — bring a blanket or a chair.
Beyond the city-organized concerts, neighborhood events and DPNA monthly meetings are announced not through the association's website but through its listserv — a mailing list with more than 1,200 subscribers, including residents, reporters, police officers, and city and county employees, according to the listserv's own guidelines.
DPNA meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at a board member's home. The specific location and agenda are posted to the listserv only a few days before each meeting, so timely subscription is the practical way to stay informed.
The listserv functions as a one-to-many notice board rather than a discussion forum. Guidelines updated in September 2020 encourage posts about housing, contractor referrals, garage sales, school events, and neighborhood safety concerns, while prohibiting advertising, business promotion, and political endorsements. By default, replies go to the entire list — something the guidelines ask subscribers to keep in mind before hitting send.
Residents interested in shaping how the listserv is moderated can apply to become a Community Reviewer — a volunteer role that works alongside the lead moderator to keep the list, in the guidelines' words, 'a kind, trusted, and valuable tool for community information.' Listserv membership does not automatically confer DPNA membership. The association charges $5 to $10 per year in dues, which fund neighborhood functions including the listserv hosting fee itself. Residents who want to add an item to a monthly meeting agenda can email the board at BOARD@DukePark.groups.io.
