Regions Bank and the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society are marking the life of K9 Robbi — the Coweta County Sheriff's Office Belgian Malinois who got hit by a car during a foot chase and kept running — with a donation in his name, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

Robbi died suddenly from natural causes in June 2026. His handler had found him unresponsive and rushed him to Sweetwater Animal Hospital, where staff confirmed he had died of natural causes. He had been with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office since September 2023.

The bank robbery that made Robbi widely known happened on February 11, 2026, at the Regions Bank branch on Bullsboro Drive in Newnan. Deputies responded to a robbery in progress, attempted a traffic stop, and triggered a high-speed pursuit that ended when the suspect's vehicle crashed at the intersection of Bullsboro Drive and the Newnan Crossing bypass. The suspect fled on foot through a Burger King parking lot and into a nearby shopping center.

Robbi's handler deployed him during the foot chase. Mid-pursuit, a vehicle struck the dog. He did not stop. Robbi continued after the suspect and helped bring him into custody. Veterinarians at Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital later treated him for minor abrasions and cleared him for a full recovery, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

Before joining the Coweta County Sheriff's Office in his final assignment, Robbi had already carried a weight most working dogs never do. He was the former partner of Deputy Eric Minix, a 31-year-old Coweta County deputy who was struck and killed by an Alabama police vehicle during a high-speed chase on Interstate 85 in January 2024. After Minix's death, Robbi was reassigned to a younger deputy within the same agency.

While this was not the final chapter anyone wanted for the canine, it will never erase the amazing story he helped write for the agency and the community.— Coweta County Sheriff's Office

Regions Bank announced a donation to the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society in Robbi's honor, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

Whether any physical stress from being struck during the February pursuit contributed to Robbi's death has not been confirmed. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office has not released a specific cause beyond natural causes, and officials have not addressed a possible connection to the line-of-duty impact.

Why it matters — Robbi's story — a dog who outlived his first handler, took a hit mid-chase, and still finished the job — has moved a bank and a humane society to put money behind his memory, reflecting how a working animal can become a genuine anchor for a community's sense of loss and pride.
