Trader Joe's plans 30+ new stores across multiple states, with recent openings noted

The California-based grocer has listed more than 30 locations as 'coming soon' on its website, building on earlier plans, with some sites expected in 2027.

How does this story make you feel?

Trader Joe's has posted more than 30 new store locations as 'coming soon' on its website. The move comes after the company revealed 25 new spots across 14 states.

Three additional sites were noted as likely to open in 2027, according to the New York Post. The chain's most recent opening was in Reading, Massachusetts, where shoppers could browse aisles starting October 14. Earlier openings include West Palm Beach, Florida on June 12, New Orleans, Louisiana on June 10, and Tucson, Arizona on May 29.

Trader Joe's told Nexstar that locations listed as 'opening soon' on its website typically open three to six months after being posted.

The expansion includes locations in multiple states. The chain currently operates more than 600 stores across 42 states and Washington, D.C.

The growth rate has been consistent: the grocer opened 34 stores in 2024 and 43 in 2025, according to the New York Post. Despite that pace, eight states remain without a single location — Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

No opening dates have been set for the majority of the newly listed locations, and the chain has noted that details remain subject to change.

Why it matters — For shoppers in 16 states, a Trader Joe's may be coming to their area within months — and the expansion timeline gives a practical window for when to expect doors to open.
