Vanessa Trump announces she is cancer-free six months after breast cancer diagnosis

The 48-year-old ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr. shared the news in an Instagram video with daughter Kai during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, calling her results 'clear.'

How does this story make you feel?

Vanessa Trump is cancer-free. Six months after a breast cancer diagnosis upended her year, the 48-year-old announced Friday that her latest test results had come back clear — delivering the news in a short Instagram video alongside her eldest daughter, Kai, who leaned in for a hug the moment her mother finished speaking.

And it came back clear, so I am finally cancer free.— Vanessa Trump

The clip was posted to Kai Trump's Instagram account, timed to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In a caption, Kai, 19, wrote that the family wanted to share the story to help raise awareness about early detection, education, and support for those affected by the disease.

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in April, so we thought we would share her story and how she was diagnosed and how she overcame it.— Kai Trump

The teaser previews a longer conversation set for release on YouTube on Saturday, in which Kai sits down with her mother and Dr. Nicole Saphier — a radiologist and Fox News medical contributor — to discuss Vanessa's journey, prevention, and early detection. Saphier is also President Donald Trump's third nominee for surgeon general, according to NBC News.

When it comes to breast cancer, it's not one size fits all. It feels different for everyone.— Dr. Nicole Saphier, radiologist and Fox News medical contributor

Vanessa Trump first disclosed her diagnosis publicly on May 20 in an Instagram post, though she said in Friday's video that she had actually been diagnosed in April. At the time of her May announcement, she said she was working with her medical team on a treatment plan and had already undergone a procedure that week. A month later, she updated followers that she had been recovering from surgery for four weeks and was preparing to begin a second stage of treatment.

I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. While this isn't news anyone expects, I'm working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan.— Vanessa Trump

Her May announcement drew an outpouring of support, including from Ivanka Trump, her former sister-in-law.

Praying for your continued strength and a swift recovery. Love you mama.— Ivanka Trump

Vanessa Trump was married to Donald Trump Jr. from 2005 to 2018. The two share five children: Kai, 19; Donald, 17; Tristan; Spencer; and Chloe, 11. She is currently dating Tiger Woods, with Page Six confirming the relationship in March 2025, according to the New York Post.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, aside from skin cancers, accounting for about one in three new cancer diagnoses in women each year, according to the American Cancer Society. About one in eight women — nearly 13 percent — will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Rates among women under 50 have increased faster than among older women in recent years, prompting the recommended screening age to drop from 50 to 40.

Treatment and detection have advanced significantly in recent years. Breast surgical oncologist Ronald Hurst of Cedars-Sinai noted that doctors now use 3D mammography combined with AI algorithms to get more detailed imaging. His colleague Carey Cullinane said tumor genetic testing has made treatment more personalized, meaning some patients can now safely avoid chemotherapy or radiation that would previously have been standard.

Why it matters — Vanessa Trump's public journey through diagnosis, surgery, and clearance — shared with millions during Breast Cancer Awareness Month — puts a recognizable face on a disease that affects roughly one in eight American women, and underscores the push for earlier screening.
