Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff file for divorce after three years of marriage

The actor and the Grammy-winning producer filed an uncontested joint divorce in Brooklyn on Friday, months after their July separation became public.

How does this story make you feel?

Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff have filed for divorce in Brooklyn, formalizing a split that became public knowledge in July. According to Kings County Supreme Court records, the filing was made Friday and is categorized as an uncontested matrimonial action, with Qualley named as plaintiff and Antonoff as defendant. Page Six reports that the pair have also submitted a settlement agreement that the court has yet to finish processing.

Qualley, 32, has appeared in 'The Substance' and 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.' Antonoff, 42, has won 14 Grammy Awards as a songwriter and producer with credits including Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, and Sabrina Carpenter, and leads the band Bleachers. Their relationship began in the summer of 2021 after the two met at a party, and they wed in New Jersey in August 2023.

This divorce filing was inevitable. Like most couples, it took Margaret and Jack some time to iron out a few things and just adjust to this chapter before taking that next step to make things official and file the paperwork.— Source close to the couple

Page Six had confirmed the separation in July, with a source at the time saying there was no dramatic reason behind the split and explicitly pushing back on social media rumors of infidelity. 'They're figuring this all out together,' the insider said then. 'For what it's worth, they've had a beautiful and loving relationship. Sometimes, these things just don't work.'

They still have immense respect for one another but knew this was coming.— Source close to the couple

Sources who spoke to Page Six described communication as a persistent difficulty in the marriage. According to one source, "Jack could be very particular about how he liked things." That same source added that Antonoff tended to favor his own way of doing things, and that Qualley often felt her perspective carried less weight than his. Us Weekly subsequently reported that Qualley initiated the breakup, citing busy schedules and distance as factors, and that the couple had still been trying to work on the marriage a few months before the separation became public.

Breakup speculation had begun earlier when Antonoff attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding without Qualley. According to Page Six, he told fellow guests he and Qualley were in a 'tiff' and that he did not want to 'put up a facade' while they were having trouble.

Antonoff spoke about the relationship in warmer terms as recently as this week, telling an interviewer that performing songs about Qualley remains a 'really beautiful' experience despite the split, according to Page Six. Representatives for both Qualley and Antonoff had not returned comment requests as of ABC News's publication.

The uncontested nature of the filing and the pending settlement agreement suggest the two have largely resolved the terms of the divorce without litigation.

Why it matters — The filing closes one of the more closely watched celebrity marriages of recent years, with the uncontested, settlement-backed divorce suggesting a relatively clean legal separation between two of entertainment's most prominent figures.
